Today I held my final fundraiser for the adoption. It was rather impromptu but quite successful no less. We held yet another yard sale, mostly with stuff that didn't sell at last summer's yard sales, but also with some generous donations from various friends of mine and of my parents. Considering that there really was nothing big to sell this year, I am overjoyed to have made over $700. This is excellent, as I will be making my baby house donation on Monday in the amount of $500.
The donation I will be making will go to Lily's baby house in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan, where my agency is spearheading a $48,000 window replacement project. As some of you know, Kazakhstan is VERY hot in the summer and boasts sub-zero Siberian temperatures in the winter. The windows at the baby house are being replaced one by one. The old windows are thin, cracked and not energy efficient. The new windows will keep the children of the Semey baby house warm by keeping out the draft and will significantly decrease the heating costs, so that money can be spent ob even better things for maintaining and improving the baby house and the lives of the children who live there while waiting for the parents to adopt them.
If you are looking for a charity to donate to, I ask you to visit the following website http://dreamofachild.org/2009/05/06/semipalatinsk-kazakhstan-baby-home-window-project/ Donations of all sizes help and by clicking on the "Just Give" button, you can receive a receipt for tax deductions. I often donate to various causes in the names of others as gifts. For charitable friends who have everything, this is a great gift. Stockings, birthday presents, etc this is a wonderful to make a difference. I hope that knowing a child who has lived there, ie. my Lily, that you will feel that much more inclined to help my agency reach their goal as soon as possible.
While my fundraisers for the adoption are now complete, I will continue to raise money for this project, so stay tuned for my November fundraiser for the Semey Baby House Window Project.

This is the story of how a single 30-something year old woman and a 6.5 month old angel from Kazakhstan found each other and became a family. A journey which started as a dream, became reality in August 2009 when two hearts found one home... together.
