First Diapers and Formula

I am still sick and at home. I am so over it. I just cannot seem to kick this funky virus I got on the way home from Kazakhstan, although Mom mentioned that I was getting sick in Semey, so who knows. Maybe it was Anelya's parting gift so I won't forget her while I am away. It worked!

So, while I was sick I had time to research where the big diaper and formula sales are right now. Answer = Target! 20% off when you buy 3 or more large packs of diapers. So, I did. And let me tell you what a trippy experience it was for me to buy formula and diapers for the first time. SO MUCH FUN! Well, let's qualify that a little. It was great fun because for two years I have been accumulating things for a baby, but buying food and diapers, I mean, it's like there is REALLY A BABY COMING NOW! And I know who she is. And I cannot wait. So, spending a gazillion dollars over the next couple of years on diapers and formula isn't FUN, but this time it was.

The appeals period is more than halfway over now. This time next Friday the adoption will be final. All I have to do upon my return is sign her out of the baby house, get her medical exam in Almaty, and go through the final Embassy process in Almaty. I told my mom today that I will be so happy when this process is finally over and we can just start our lives together.

I came home to a pile of Baby Talk and Parents magazines and have been devouring them in between coughing. Everything is so different now. Everything I read, everything I think and talk about: It's all from a new point of view. I actually do feel like a mother now. It's almost like I have forgotten what life was like when Anelya didn't even exist and she isn't even here yet!

I have been too sick to unpack, but I have been moving things around from one place to another and I have done a bit of laundry. Today I started to do baby laundry. Fun! So, life is changing even though it feels like nothing has really changed. It's all very confusing, really. But OH how sweet it is!

This is the story of how a single 30-something year old woman and a 6.5 month old angel from Kazakhstan found each other and became a family. A journey which started as a dream, became reality in August 2009 when two hearts found one home... together.
