My Dog Has Trained Me...

I have to give myself a little credit. I think I am doing quite well with the "just wait because you can't do anything about it" thing right now. I'm not even nesting. Actually, I am VERY lazy right now. I am embracing the laziness, as I believe there will be no room for laziness soon enough...

On the furry baby front, I have noticed that Gunnar expects a bone after every meal now. Brody is happy to join in the gluttony. I'm not sure when Gunnar trained me to do this, but I started to recognize this new trend a couple of days ago and put it to the test. Sure enough, after he eats he starts his campaign. He does seem to understand that he has to wait until Brody eats his dinner, so he just sits next to Brody and huffs and puffs until he's done. Then he serenades me until I give in. Ugh. I guess he thinks he raised me well.

I was invited to dinner with some friends on Friday and had a lovely time. Like most people up here, they are snowbirds and will be going to Florida soon for the winter. They were afraid that they would miss my baby shower, so I was presented with a huge bag of baby books! It was so fun. Besides the ridiculous amount of clothes I have acquired, I don't really have anything else yet. So, it was fun to see some books appear and I am glad that they will be such a useful tool during the attachment process. I can report that they do work! I read one to Gunnar and Brody last night and after a few minutes they were snoring away. Hooray!

Other than that, I spent 3 hours studying Russian last night. It's all coming back to me rather quickly, except for the writing, which I never learned. I can read pretty well, but the spelling is a nightmare and Rosetta Stone leaves no room for flexible spelling interpretations. Honestly? I don't care about spelling, so I wish we could bypass that section, but nope. Oh well. As long as I can communicate that my mom is allergic to horse meat we'll be fine. I don't want to make international news with her barf-a-rama sooo "ana ne mozjit yist loshitz". Me either for that matter, but I could do it if it was a matter of being pleasant to some hosts. Sorry Mr. Ed.

Oh, my pets have trained me well over the years! And certainly there is much that can be transferred to the little one. The stern "no" is working wonders already! Unfortunately, I forget myself occasionally and try "sit and stay" as well. Doesn't work so well. ;)

Out of order on comments here, but Gunnar is pretty cute as a cow statue! Poor baby!

This is the story of how a single 30-something year old woman and a 6.5 month old angel from Kazakhstan found each other and became a family. A journey which started as a dream, became reality in August 2009 when two hearts found one home... together.
