JCICS Update

Today I found a Kazakhstan update on the JCICS website. http://www.jcics.org/Kazakhstan.htm I am certainly happy to see that Kaz officials moved so quickly to release a statement as quickly as they did.

Here is the statement:
October 3, 2008
The Consular Section of the Kazakhstan Embassy has agreed to release the following information:

As of September 27, a total of 32 US agencies have submitted their application to process adoptions in Kazakhstan. The names of these agencies can be found here. All of the information requested from these agencies has been provided, and these agencies “are cleared.” One or two more agencies – names not on this list – are still in process because some documentation they sent arrived later than the others.
The next step in the process is for these agencies to provide the Embassy of Kazakhstan with the name(s) and contact information for the local coordinator(s)/facilitator(s) that they use in Kazakhstan. These names will be provided to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who will then send it to the Committee on Child Protection. This Committee will arrange for a meeting with all of these coordinators to ensure that there is uniform understanding of the rules and requirements for their activities in Kazakhstan.

When that process has been completed, the Kazakhstan Embassy’s review process will be complete. They will publish the list of all of the approved agencies and contact information on the Embassy Website, so that people who wish to adopt from Kazakhstan will know whom to contact.

As you can see, there is a list of approved agencies mentioned in the first paragraph, which can be seen here http://www.jcics.org/Country%20Programs.htm#Kazakhstan So the question of the week is... why is LMI not on this list? It would be unheard of for them not be on the list, so I am going to sit tight and wait for an answer from my coordinator. The stress of the past few weeks is, well, exhausting. Here's hoping for a quick, easy explanation with a "P.S. Your dossier is at the Consulate already!"

Andrea,
If you look at them two lists closely they are different lists. The second list I think is just a JCICS composite, not a "Kaz approved" list. It has more than the the 32 agencies, including Commonwealth who is no longer in business. The first list (where it say's click here) has exactly 32 agencies and LMI is on it. I woulnd't worry, I think we are fine.

This is the story of how a single 30-something year old woman and a 6.5 month old angel from Kazakhstan found each other and became a family. A journey which started as a dream, became reality in August 2009 when two hearts found one home... together.
