When I got to the office this morning, I obviously made a bee-line for the FedEx package which arrived yesterday with all of my apostilled documents. I worked with international legal paperwork for many years and, just out of routine, decided that I better go through everything once more with a fine-toothed comb to make sure everything was there and in order. Thank GOD I did that, because I realized that i never signed the Monitoring Agreement which states that I agree to allow Kazakh authorities to come see Lily and our home upon their request until she is 18 years old. Great. So I called Tonya, LMI's dossier specialist extraordinaire and, sure enough, it was missing form the faxed copy I sent her too. So, as soon as it was time for lunch, I jumped in the car, got the letter notarized and then raced to Concord, which is about 45 minutes away. It didn't take me that long to get there. That's all I'll say. Got a CHOICE parking space right in front of the State House and made my way up to the Secretary of State who immediately apostilled my final document and sent me on my way. RACED back in a very safe and orderly fashion, of course, and made it back to the office only a few minutes late. I wouldn't have been late at all if half of Massachusetts wasn't causing a traffic jam on Main Street. This is another reason I love 1.5 hour lunch breaks.
So, back to the office, make copies and my favorite FedEx lady comes by to pick up my envelope. We go through our blessing the envelope with good vibes ritual (she's totally on board with the whole adoption thing and gets so excited every time there is a development) and she is on her merry way. It's been scanned. That's all I know. It will get to Texas before 3p.m. tomorrow.
I am seriously in the middle of a day long adrenaline rush. Did you ever see Ferris Bueller's Day Off when his sister comes home to catch him, only to find an intruder in the house (the principal). Remember how she frantically runs up the stairs screaming? That's kind of what I was like all day today, minus the screams. Running and bouncing around. I'm surprised security didn't stop me at the State House.
So friends, let all say a little prayer of gratitude that things have gone so smoothly thus far and another one to pray that they continue to move along nicely. Next step is to get back crackin' on fundraising. Only a few (ok several) months to go! GO TEAM!
