I finished the homestudy process as promised on Monday. My social worker still has to draft the written homestudy, but said according to the information which she had received, I could assume I will receive state approval. Tomorrow I am gearing up for my 5 a.m. wake up call and subsequent trip to Manchester, NH to USCIS for fingerprinting. We'll see if I sleep tonight. I'm thinking no.
I had a great birthday yesterday. First, when I got to work, the ladies from the dentist's office across the hall had posted signs and balloons all over the building. It was hilarious. I was sure Steve would think I had done it myself. LOL. These friends were so generous and not only did that, but made a donation to Lily's fund AND gave me some super cute baby clothes and a towel set - you know, the kind with the hood? I tried it on but i was too big for it ;-) Completely unnecessary, but very sweet.
Then my godmother came up from the Boston area for lunch with my parents and me. She is so excited and intrigued by the adoption and it was fun to see her and catch up. Along with her came a gigantic piggy bank full of coins. It was so heavy I had to have my dad carry it to the car. I started rolling the coins this morning and after 45 minutes, I'm still not even half way through. This is a very fun process indeed. She had also brought balloons and flowers for me. So sweet.
My parents and grandparents also gave me hefty donations to my Lily Fund as my birthday presents. To date, I have raised $16,000 since January 1, 2008 (4 months) and am now able to pay for all of the program costs up until departure. I still have to raise another $20,000, but I am more confident than ever that I will be able to do this. Amazon and EBay are still going strong, as my mother's friends have all started to donate loads of books and goods to sell on Ebay. I am a lucky girl! Uncle Sam should be sending his Lily check any day now. So, a lovely birthday indeed and I am very very grateful.
I will write a new post tomorrow about my brush with the FBI. I love this stuff, so it should be fun. My favorite quote from a movie is from Shakespeare in Love when Gwenyth Paltrow says, "There will be poetry in my life... and adventchahhhhhh" This would be the adventchahhhhhhhh part.

You are 33? That is awesome! I started my adoption of Zahri on my 31st birthday, it is so fun to meet other single moms adopting at young ages....yes, we are young in adoption age. :)
Christy
Thanks, Christy. I was so excited when I found you on the Single Kaz Mom's boards. As you said, it's nice to find someone the same age going through this unique process. The fact that you used the same agency as I did has made me follow your journey even more closely. Thanks for reading ;-)
